Under the eyes of the village People

In Africa, success is never personal , it’s a public event managed by ancestors, aunties, and at least three prophets with airtime.Through Akello Nam’s eyes,  Nyayenga Peace takes us from Kampala to Nebbi to Copenhagen, where tradition meets Wi-Fi, superstitions go digital, and every blessing comes with a spiritual disclaimer. Weddings without faces. Pregnancies hidden like government tenders. Progress that must first pass through the comment section. Village People is a bold, hilarious, and painfully honest portrait of modern African life, peeling back the laughter to reveal something deeper: the quiet fear of being seen, the inherited caution we call respect, and the invisible tug-of-war between culture and freedom.Told with humour, heart, and an  unforgettable voice, this book will make you laugh, reflect, and whisper, “Eh, this is so true.”Because sometimes the real enemy isn’t witchcraft or jealousy. It’s the fear of your own light.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is KuchPress?

KuchPress is a creative publishing and storytelling imprint founded by Nyayenga Peace, a Ugandan writer living in Denmark.

It is the home of books, stories, reflections, and creative projects that explore migration, motherhood, identity, belonging, grief, resilience, healing, culture, and the journey of becoming.

At its heart, KuchPress believes that stories have the power to educate, connect, inspire, and remind people that they are not alone.

What does the name KuchPress stand for?

KuchPress is more than a publishing imprint. It represents creativity, storytelling, reflection, and the preservation of lived experiences.

It is a place where real stories are valued and where ordinary experiences are transformed into books that educate, inspire, and spark meaningful conversations.

What kind of books does KuchPress publish?

KuchPress publishes books that are rooted in lived experience.

The books explore themes such as migration, identity, culture, motherhood, belonging, grief, resilience, healing, relationships, and personal development.

Some books are deeply personal. Others are educational, reflective, or inspired by everyday life. Together, they form a growing collection of stories that speak to the human experience.

Who is behind KuchPress?

KuchPress was founded by Nyayenga Peace, a social worker, storyteller, author, and observer of people.

Her work is inspired by life between Uganda and Denmark, by the experiences of motherhood and migration, and by a deep curiosity about what it means to be human.

Through books, speaking, and storytelling, she aims to create work that helps people feel seen, understood, challenged, and inspired.

What is the vision for KuchPress?

The vision is to build a publishing home for meaningful stories.

Today, KuchPress is the home of Nyayenga Peace’s books.

In the future, it will grow into a platform that supports and publishes other voices, helping more stories find their way into the world.

Because every person carries a story, and some stories are medicine for someone else.

Why did you start KuchPress?

I started KuchPress because I wanted a home for my stories.

Over the years, I found myself writing about the things that shape ordinary lives: family, loss, migration, cultural identity, motherhood, healing, and personal growth.

I wanted a space where these stories could live, grow, and reach readers around the world.

KuchPress was born from a simple belief: stories matter.
